Media Center

The TxDMV Media Center provides resources for both the press and the general public.

Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA)

The Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) prohibits the general public and media from accessing or confirming any specific information, which includes the names and addresses of people or businesses, from the official state motor vehicle database. There are exceptions in the law for such entities as courts and police, but none of these apply to the media.

Texas law also provides additional protection under the Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Act, and Public Information Act (Section 552.130).
